Kat Olson is an actor, writer, and producer living in New York City.

Growing up as a bird of passage, Kat felt most at home when she found the forensics community, competing in speech competitions religiously at an early age…

She valued the opportunity to create her own work and showcase it in a competitive atmosphere. Determined to “beat the boys” she always auditioned for the male roles in the school plays, and competed in comedy events each year in forensics where the boys had a significantly higher likelihood of scoring above their female counterparts. She worked diligently her four years competing, and often went home with first place trophies.

She loved the opportunity to shine in many different capacities - acting, writing, improvisation, and original oratory. She cared about it so much it made her sick . . . literally.  She would violently puke in between events.  She doesn’t do that now, she went to therapy, and chews on a lot of ginger when she’s anxious.

Now engrossed in writing her own material and performing competitively, Kat actively began to audition for roles that would require a full body transformation. She moved to North Carolina to pursue a degree in theater. Told she resembled an ingenue, Kat felt as if she needed to fit a feminine norm to receive work within her field.  She enjoyed playing the delicate roles she was booking, but she felt frustrated that her outside appearance seemed to be combatting additional stories within.  In an act of defiance and an embrace of her own gender expression - she chopped off two feet of hair into a pixie and recognized who she saw in the mirror.  It was a matter of weeks before her senior showcase and she felt great.

She began her professional career in regional theatre throughout the southeast; earned enough points to qualify for equity enrollment, commuted to and from Atlanta for film and television gigs, and finally saved enough money to move to New York City.

In the city, she made friends with people crafting their own way in the industry. She found artists writing new works and acted in their plays, continued to audition, began a voiceover service, and started learning the ways of film production. She co-produced The End of the Squirrel, a short film in collaboration with Incline Productions sold to Alter in April of 2023. She has travelled to California to work with Potter Productions for VidCon, organizing dozens of incredible artists to perform their best for the Night of Awesome, and worked locally in NYC as a producer for documentary shoots, galas, short form content, and immersive theatrical events. In collaboration with Potter Productions’ founder, Elizabeth Potter, she is set to produce her short, Period, in 2024.
